Using the extranet setting

R

Robert Simmons

I'd like to be able to provide access to project server to mobile users via
internet connection, without having to use VPN. I'm thinking there should
be some document on the Microsoft site detailing how to make use of the
extranet setting in conjunction with either DMZ or with ISA Server or
something, but I guess I haven't located the right area yet.

Also, I'm wondering if it's possible to install SharePoint Portal Server
after installing Project Server to the same box. (Seems the requirements on
my pilot project changed, after I explained the power of shared documents,
etc with WSS.)

Robert:

If you want to give access to Project Web Access across the Internet, I
suggest that you place a front end in the DMZ. The instructions you seek are
in the installation guide. This shipped on your CD, is installed in the
Project Server helps files directory on your server and available for
download on microsoft.com. If you want to give access for Internet Project
users, then you should provide this through Terminal Services or Citrix.

In your second question, are you really asking about SharePoint "Portal"
Server or simply WSS? If you want to add WSS after installing Project, you
can. If you truly Mean SharePoint Portal Server, rather than Windows
SharePoint Services, then you should look at the knowledgebase article at:
