Using the "Send As" Permission in Entourage 2004

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

Hello All,

I'm hoping you guys can help me find a solution to this situation. I have a user, we'll call her Jane, who wants to send an email from a group, we'll call it's (e-mail address removed), so that the message appears to be coming from the group and not the user. Jane is on a Mac with OS 10.5.6, Entourage 2004 (latest release), Safari and Firefox. My company's email server is running Windows 2003 x64 and Exchange 2007 (latest release). I need to find a way for Jane to do one of the following options:

1. Jane can send email as (e-mail address removed) from within Entourage 2004.
2. Jane can send email as (e-mail address removed) from OWA Light (Safari and Firefox can only access the Light version of OWA)

I've already granted Jane the "Send as" permission in AD so that's not the problem. I tried setting Jane as a delegate of (e-mail address removed) in the Exchange account settings in Entourage but that didn't work because the group doesn't have an Outbox. Furthermore, I read the one post on this forum that came up when I searched for "send as" and it didn't help me solve my issue. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Alex

I don't quite understand your comment "the group doesn't have an
Outbox". The Outbox folder is a folder of the E-mail client, not the
account. No account has an Outbox.

You should be able to add the account to the "Users I am a delegate for"
list in her Exchange account. It will appear in her folder list as its
own mailbox and it will appear in the From drop down menu of new messages.

For security reasons, the message will appear to come from the group but
the From address in an open message will have "sent by User Name
<[email protected]>" appended to the end. All replies, however, will
return to the Sales mailbox.

Hope this helps!

Bill,

Yesterday, I tried configuring Jane as a Delegate of the group; however, I was receiving an error regarding the account's Outbox (I'm sorry, I didn't write it down or take a screen shot). Today, I attempted this again at your suggestion and it worked. The only difference between today and yesterday is that, between attempting to send a message and configuring the account, I quit Entourage and restarted it. Any idea why that would have made it work?

Thanks,

Alex

I just configured another user the same way as the first and I've taken a screen shot of the error message I received. I think it's because the permissions have completely replicated through AD but I could be wrong. Furthermore, I was mistaken in specifying that it had to do with the "Outbox". Here's the screen shot: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/alex_ackerman/3547392308/>

Error -18597

Attempting to send anything yields either 'Unknown Error -17199' or 'HTTP
Error. Access to the resource is forbidden. Error -18597.'

This is probably because the e-mail address you typed in the Exchange
account dialog does not exactly match the one the server expects. Since the
addresses don't match, it doesn't allow you to send.

I'm adding the account by finding it in the directory. I'm not typing in the email address.

Not allowing time for permissions to propagate sounds like a plausible
theory. So long as you've got it working, we'll call it a win. ;-)
