Using two types of resource against the same task

How should resources be handled if you want to assign a person resource to a
task as well as an equipment resource to the same task. For example. Task 5
has 8 person hours of work to be done as well as needing to allocate a tank
resource to be available. The person is working on the tank per say. It
would seem that allocating both resources to the task would cause durations
to calculate incorrectly.
What would be the correct configuration of task type and resource type and
how should this be managed

Perhaps I'm missing something in your question but there is no reason you
cannot assign a person and material (equipment) reosurce to the same task.
People do work within a duration. Material resources merely identify a fixed
cost for however many units of material one requires. In your example, you
would assign the person to the task for 8h (in the assignment units) and
assign 1 tank.
