Using Visio vs other drawing tools

In my group we have a real need to convert old canvas figures / drawings into
something else since nobady has the canvas software anymore. I wanted to
know if visio is the latest and greatest tool to use or is there any other
recommendations for other software that I should check out. I need to sign
up for a class to help with all the conversions but want to use the best tool
for this.
Thank you in advance for any help

Just as a note - Canvas sounds more like a painting / drawing program,
which Visio is not. Visio is used to create business charts and diagrams,
network drawings, process management flows, organization charts, etc. The
link below also allows you to run the online trial, so you don't have to
install the full Visio download to test it out.
