Here is the error I am getting. Please read all of the symptoms and info.
This is Office 2003 Small Business on a XP Pro system.
“Microsoft Word is set to be your email editor. However, Word is
unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version. The Outlook email
editor will be used instead."
This is only happening when replying to a small percentage of emails and it
is always the same email senders. I see nothing special about the emails that
would give Word any issues. The two I can confirm are from an msn.com and a
yahoo.com domain in an HTML format. Not every email from those domains causes
the error, only from two specific senders. It has happened from others, but
these are the two that I can recall and have kept for troubleshooting.
Say I reboot and then open up Outlook. I can compose all of the emails I
want using Word as the editor. I can also reply all I want and it will use
Word as the editor. Once I hit one of the before mentioned senders, I will
get the hair pulling error message listed above. If I close out of Outlook
and look in the task manager Word will be running in the processes. I can
terminate that process, open Outlook and I am fine until, once again, I reply
to a message sent from one of those senders. I can duplicate this every time.
This started happening several weeks ago.
-The box has only had Office 2003 installed. No other previous Office or
Office components are or ever have been installed.
-I have removed and reinstalled Office completely as well single components.
-I have created a new Outlook profile.
-Registered the ole32.dll and ran msiexec.exe /fm {GUID}.
-Watched my hair get greyer.
-No I don’t want to use the Outlook editor, I want to use Word.
I humbly ask for any assistance or direction. I am totally out of ideas.
Regards,
Davec
