Using Word can you use track changes in fillable fields?

We are using Word XP Professional and we have a fillable Word document.
Currently, the form is protected with the Tracked changes option selected. We
only want tracked changes to apply to certian fillable fields and not the
entire document. Is this something that can be done? If so, how?

Hi,

You cannot turn on track changes for only part of the document (many users
want to turn off track changes for the header or footer when track changes is
on and they cannot).

As far as I can see track changes does not track changes made to the
contents of a text box.

Thanks for your input. That is what I was afraid of. I have another kind of
on the same line that you may know. If you go to Tools then Protect Document,
the choices you are given are: Tracked changes, Comments, and Forms. . . Do
you know what Comments does? I have never been able to figure that out.

Hi,

Once you turn it on (protect for comments) the document is locked (no
changes allowed) except users can insert comments.
