just got the new mac with word, and I am having troublesaving docs. when I save using the save icon it saves on a file ending 'dox' which then becomes imossible to fine, much less send to anyone. Then I tried pdf and when I finally found that I couldn't edit it!

I just need basic how to use instructions or a basic tutorial..........all help options assume I know what I am doing!

The new file format is enabled by default. If you want to save the file in
the old format that is readable by most word processors, you can do so using
the File>Save As command and selecting "Word 97-2007 Document (.doc)" from
the dropdown menu which shows you the different formats Word can write. If
you want the old format to be the default file format, you will need to
click on Word>Preferences, go to the Save section and choose the old
document format from the dropdown list.

NB: Other formats you could use:

* RTF is more universal even than .doc, but it may not be able to hold all
the formatting that has been applied to a Word document, and the file size
tends to balloon if there is a picture inside.
* Plain text only saves the text, but *virtually any* text editing
application can open it.

thanks for the reply, but you are speaking in computereze..default, format etc.

why doesn't it save easily in the save icon?? why can't I find or edit when I do find and open the document?? What the heck is docx and why does it happen automatically? If a manual doesn't ome ith the software, how are non-cmputr types suppose to fgure it out??
there must be an easier way.

thanks>

thanks for the reply, but you are speaking in computereze..default, format
etc.

Default: a pre-selected option adopted by a computer program or other
mechanism when no alternative is specified by the user or programmer

Format: a defined structure for the processing, storage, or display of data;
for example, a data file in binary format

If you can't look up the meaning of those words, you shouldn't be trusted to
switch on a computer. Face it: there are things called computers; they
involve *some* learning.

If you like manuals, buy one. Or buy a word processor that caters for those
who don't need Word's advanced features; they are much easier to learn
(Apple's Pages, for example).

The reality is: Michel gave you an excellent, focused, well-phrased answer.
He does these things in his own free time out of a wish to share knowledge
with other users of Word.

Maybe you should try learning to type instead -- I ignored your questions
because of the number of errors and the ambiguity of your carelessly phrased
questions. I only responded to your second post because your equally
careless further demands gave me the irrits.
