Using Word with SQL database

Dave

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm told I need to add-in "Microsoft Query" to enable Word to query & retrieve data from a MySQL database. I can't find Microsoft Query anywhere. It does not appear to be a Word add-in. Am I missing something? Is this functionality somehow intrinsic now? Or does anyone know where I can actually get Microsoft Query for Word XP?

Hi =?Utf-8?B?RGF2ZQ==?=,
This is probably a dumb question, but I'm told I need to add-in "Microsoft Query"
to enable Word to query & retrieve data from a MySQL database. I can't find
Microsoft Query anywhere.MS Query is officially part of Excel. But if it's installed, then Word should provide
access to it in the "Open Data Source" dialog box for mail merge or inserting a
database field. You should find it in the list "behind" button above the list window,
at the very right.

Since this is Office XP, I'd think you'd also be able to use an OLE DB connection, if
the appropriate OLE DB provider for MySQL is installed. But you might want to take
this discussion to the word.mailmerge.fields newsgroup, where someone might be there
who's actually had experience with MySQL.

And if you're not using mail merge, or inserting a database field, then MS Query
won't do you any good at all. If you're wanting a programmatic interface (you are
posting in a VBA group, after all!), then you most likely need to learn about ADO...
