using "`"

Am copying excerpts of an old poem. The word "winged" is
said with two syllables and is written with a "`" over
the "e". All I can type is "wing`ed". How do I get "`"
and "e" in the same space? Is this the correct newsgroup
to ask?

I work with Azerty keyboard, so there is no problem
at all to type è, because I have it on my keyboard.
Maybe it is'nt with Qwerty?
What you can do then is push the Alt button
and type 0232. So Alt+0232 result in è.
You can find those keyboard combinations
in "Special Characters"? I don't know the exact english words
for the prog but you can start it with charmap.exe in
the Windows or Windows\System32 (only WinXP) dir.
Normally you can start this from Start - All Programms -
BureauAccesories - SystemWorkset -Special Characters
but my Windows is not in english so I don't know if this is correct.

Hi, Sarah,

The grave-accented è is a separate character in all text fonts. In Word you
can enter it by holding the Ctrl key while you press and release the accent
character (the leftmost key on the number row on QWERTY keyboards), then
type an e. In other Windows programs such as e-mail editors, you can hold
down the Alt key while you type the number 0232 on the numeric keypad.

Similarly, the acute-accented é can be typed by pressing Ctrl and the quote
key, then typing an e, or by holding Alt and typing 0233.

The hard way, if you don't remember these shortcuts, is to go to the Insert
Symbol dialog, select the character (about 10 rows down from the top), and
click Insert.
