Problem: User receives an email from the Netscape calendar server which
contains garbled characters in place of the Kenji characters.
The problems that our Asia Pacific users face can be classified into 2 main
scenarios:
1) Whenever a user create/edit his meeting schedule via Netscape calender
(using Korean/Japanese/Chinese languages), an email notification shall be
sent to the invitees. Those who open the notification through Outlook shall
be displayed with funny characters (garbage).
2) When our users/customers access into 'Clarify GSD' and edit in
Korean/Japanese/Chinese, an email notification shall be sent. Those who open
the notification through Outlook shall be displayed with funny characters
(garbage).
We thought we had a work around which is:
Workaround:
1. Double-click the email message to open it.
2. Go to the View menu, choose Encoding, More, Japanese (Auto-select).
You should now be able to read the message in the Japanese language.
When you close the message, it asks you if you want to Save your changes.
Click Yes. The message will now appear in Japanese in the Outlook preview
pane.
This hasn't worked for all users. In global settings on the exchange server
we are using the Western Characters. So, I'm wondering why the conversion to
Kanji works for some and not others.
I'm hoping someone with experiece with UTF8 settings will see this and help
me out!
