V/Q symbol

Sheldon

I am a new Word 2002 user, and would appreciate help with
the following problem.

I need to create the abbreviation for "ventilation-
perfusion" which reads as follows: V/Q (EXCEPT that a dot
appears above the V and another dot appears above the Q).
I found a symbol named "dot above" in a symbol subset in
Word 2002, but I cannot figure out how to combine this dot
with the letters V and Q. In Wordperfect we accomplished
this with the overstrike feature, but I cannot find a
comparable feature in Word.

Any help would be greatly appreciated; thanks!

Sheldon,

I don't know if a symbol exists, but you can create a reasonable symbol as
follows:

CTRL+F9 to enter field brackets { }

With the field brackets, create the following eq field { EQ \O (V\Q,. .)

Now select the two periods and Format>Font>Character Spacing>Position>Raised
and set in 10PT.

Right click right click the field and select toggle field codes.

You might need to play with the spacing of the periods and the raised
setting to get it just how you like. When you do, select the finished
product and press ALT+F3 to create an AutoText entry of your symbol.
