v. X Update 10.1.9 OK ?

N

Norm

I'm using Office v.X with OS 10.4.8.

I was about to apply the recent Microsoft Update to my Office v.X but I
recall reading somewhere that some (not sure if many or limited) users
experienced problems with this Update.

To those in the know, is this Update (10.1.9) OK to apply?

Appreciate the help.

Thank you.

Hi Norm,
To those in the know, is this Update (10.1.9) OK to apply?
Just by the way--the only people "in the know" are those who have
installed it, and there tend to be varying results on different
machines, so "ok to apply" is really never going to be applicable. To
me, your question implies a scenario where the MacBU might tell MVPs or
beta testers "hey, we sent out an update, but it's got this bug, so
don't install it" and I think phrased that way, it's clear no one will
have a yes or no answer. :)

The MacBU wouldn't have released something that crashed on all their
test machines (say a few hundred?) but those testers can't replicate the
conditions it meets on *all* the computers running Office X. I don't
think anyone posting here knows any better than anyone else--I just wait
for other people to try it out and figure widespread problems will be
sure to show up here or the microsoft.public.mac.office newsgroup. I
apply the same basic guidelines to Apple updates, and I update at my
leisure, not immediately. I don't think there has ever been an Apple or
Office update that didn't cause at least one person a problem,
somewhere--so I backup first, I restart and repair permissions before
and after, to cover myself and to minimize the chances for upset.

That said, macfixit.com is especially good at collating reports of
problems, and I would say tends to be a good indicator of the worst-case
scenarios, as people who do experience problems seem pretty quick to let
them know. A quick google for "office mac x update problems" gives me:
