Validation failed

I'm trying to run Office Update but keep getting a validation failure. It
says that I haven't activated Office yet I've been happily using it for at
least 2 years now and if I try to validate it tells me it's already been
done. I've successfully run Office update before. The error page also
includes the code [0x80180101]. I'm using Office XP Prof. I've checked the
CD and COA against the "how to tell" page and they seem to be OK (OEM
software purchased with the PC from Dell).

On the other machine :(> - not having much luck am I? - it validates OK but
then I get a page saying that the Office Uddate Catalog cannot be displayed.
This has been the case for several days now so it's not a temporary problem
with the site.
This one's Office 2003, again OEM purchased via Dell.

Anyone any ideas?

TIA

....Richard

1. Open the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\

2. Locate the data.dat and data.bak files

3. Right click to rename the files to something different.

4. Insert your original Microsoft Office CD and launch an application, e.g.
Word or Excel.

This will reactivate your applications.

If you don't have the CDs, you may reactivate by contacting the Microsoft
Activation Center. The Office Activation Center can be reached at (888)
652-2342 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM Pacific Time. The activation process is
free of charge.
