Validation question

I create a form for network trouble ticket requests. Everything works great
and I have some fields as mandatory. One field is for a MAC address but the
customer can just enter anything and send it. How do I make the field require
an entry in MAC address format, xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx? Sorry, I don't know
anything about the Item_Send functions.
