Various problems with Publishing Layout View

R

RossH

1. Graphics inserted in Publishing Layout mode don't preview in the Print dalog or print, though they're perfectly visible in any screen view. Graphics inserted into sectioned parts of a document in Print Layout view do print.
2. Guides dissapear when dragged into a master page linked to parts of the document that are formatted with sections. They work OK if the page was created with the New Master command.
3. The New Master command is only available in All Content view, not where it would be expected, in Master Page view.
4. Headers and footers can't be used in pages added in Publishing View (but page numbers -only - can be added separately).
5. Tables of Contents are not available in Publishing View parts of the document.

Hi Ross -

Regardless of how worthy your observations may be, there is nothing to be
changed through this newsgroup. IOW, if you're trying to bring these issues
to the attention of MS you've gone in the wrong direction:) Participants
here are simply users who share their knowledge with other users.

Comments of this nature are best handled through the program's Help> Send
Feedback option. That puts it in the hands of the correct parties who have a
say in the matter. If you do, each separate point should be submitted
independently of the others so that nothing gets overlooked & ensure that
each gets filed in the appropriate "bin". They do review your input & if
they can verify the bug is real they will do what they can to correct it. If
it's a feature suggestion or a comment on how the existing feature *doesn't*
work as you'd prefer, document why you believe your way would be better.

Thanks for your answer Bob. I'm a new user to this forum (and a very satisfied one), and I'll forward suggestions for improvement through the proper forum. But from other posts I read it did seem the place to post bugs, and my points 1 and 2 are definitely bugs. Point 3 must also be a bug as I can't see how anyone could design this the way it has been implemented. Points 4 and 5 are definitely 'suggested improvements'.

Hi Ross:

Well... No, this is not the place to "post" bugs :) This is the place you
come to in the hope that there may be a work-around to some of them :)

You "post" the bugs using the Send Feedback mechanism, so they go straight
into the database the Microsoft staff look at when they are deciding what to
fix :)

Then come in here, and we'll try to help you in the meantime :)

Cheers

No problem - I was just trying to point you in a more productive direction
as John has further explained:)

I haven't had a chance to work with Pub view much or follow through on all
of the points in your post. However I have explored the first one & have not
found such a problem. Any graphics - regardless of type - appear as
expected, including the mini-preview in the Print dialog and in the Preview
app itself.

You're right Bob. In a fresh document the graphics preview and print fine. I was working in a document started in Word 2004 which had many sections and graphics already placed. Any new graphics I placed in Publishing View mode didn't preview or print. Maybe the fact that it's an existing document has something to do with it. There have been 3 or 4 other posts about non-printing from Publishing View mode so there seems to be some issue there.
