Various Problems with Visio 2003

Greg Kane

These are some of the problems I've found with Visio 2003
over the last couple of days:

1. text background cuts off 1/2 of the last letter - need
to put a "." to have the last letter display

2. shape searching very poor- need to be able to set
location for "open stencil" that takes me to a specific
directory rather than trying to list 200+ subdirectories

3. when attaching file within another document, no icon
appears

4. Sometimes takes 15 minutes to open local files - this
is true when opening via explorer or "file, open" in
Visio.

5. Has problems with CAD. Sometimes refuses to import.
Sometimes opens file with imported CAD and says the file
is corrupted (it is not) - Visio 2002 opens same file
with no problems.

6. Crashes often

7. Enormus memory usage

Anybody experiancing similar problems?

and the left click menu won't work in the size and shape box. The one
that allows you to cut, copy and paste values from and to the box...

and the Publisher/Power Point stype slection/rotation box (a jumbo box
around all items selected) drives me nuts...i loose track of the first
item selected...which makes it difficult to align shapes...

As for me, I've decided 2002 is the end of the road for me... and
since I ues it to do technical drawings 10 hours a day, 6 days a week,
I'm extermly disapointed. If this i MS's idea of an upgrade/fine
tuning, what moron did they put in charge??????????????

btw, what is your method for importing a cad dwg into visio 2002?
I've yet to be successful getting a dwg file into visio other than as
an uneditable bitmap....and a postage stamp size one at that, totally
useless. Since version 5, it's been that way for me. In version 4 you
could actually get it over into lines that could be manipulated and
used.

I have to agree that Visio 2003 is awful. I still haven't
figured out how to change a master shape on a stencil.
Also Microsoft's brilliant idea of doing away with all the
index style help menus was a stroke of genius - NOT!
Just thought I'd add my two cents!

I have Versions 4.1, 5.0c, 2000, 2002, and 2003. Out of all of these
versions, I have found that 5.0c has more features and runs much better than
all of the others.
