VB to change Security Level

V

Vince Stitt

I have a document containing macros that needs to be sent
to others. The problem is when the users had Word
installed the default security level was set at high and
will not allow macros to be run.

My question is:

Is there a way to change the security settings to medium
or low when the document is opened, then reset it to high
when the document is closed?

Thanks.

No there isn't. A security feature that allows itself to be turned off like
this is not a security feature.

Look into getting a digital signature which your users can then choose to
trust.

No, no, a thousand times no!!! If you can do it, so could any two-bit macro
virus! Anything that allowed that would be *in*security.

- You can buy a digital certificate and sign your macros.
- You can distribute a template instead of a document, and instruct the
recipient to install it in their User Templates folder (assuming they have
checked the "Trust all installed add-ins and templates" box on the Trusted
Sources tab of the Tools > Macro > Security dialog).
- Most easily, you can include instructions for setting the security level
to Medium and clicking the Enable Macros button on opening the document.
(This may not be feasible if the recipient is stuck with a policy setting
that enforces High security level.)

Hi Vince,
have a document containing macros that needs to be sent
to others. The problem is when the users had Word
installed the default security level was set at high and
will not allow macros to be run.

My question is:

Is there a way to change the security settings to medium
or low when the document is opened, then reset it to high
when the document is closed?
Nope. Logically. What would the use of macro security be at
all, if this could be done?
