not familar with word can a hyperlink in word be set to cut & paste into excel
Have a link from excel that opens the word.doc Want to enter text then cut &
paste to a cell in excel.
have some use of vba in excel.

In Word ? Have word document desc.doc after text entry in to this doc I
want
to cut then go to an excel cell and paste. This will later be used to
print a
mail merge. Lost on the procedure. Your confident YES gives me hope. Each
time I've tried to set up link it says can not open excel file. That is
useing the form recorder built in.

You probably won't manage it just by recording. Take a look at this article
for controlling Excel from Word

You won't be able to do this from a hyperlink, but you will from a toolbar
button, or possibly even a MACROBUTTON field in the document.
