vba332.dll problems

I am running Win 98 first edition. I can't get Office 97
Pro Excel to work. Every time I try to open it, I get the
error message that Excel caused an invalid page fault in
module VBA332.DLL. I have attempted to uninstall Office,
but it won't let me - apparently it can't find the
Offpro97.stf file (even though it is there on the cd).
Following the advice in the error message, I have tried to
reinstall Office - it let's me do it, but the same problem
occurs. All other Office apps work fine - its just Excel
that wont - which is a bummer, because that is the one
that I need most.

Another thing. I downloaded the Office 97 scrubber
program. It tells me that Office 97 has been scrubbed from
my hard-drive, yet after I use this I can open Excel (a
couple of error messages appear: "Could not register the
Visual Basic Environment. Please run setup", followed
by "An error occurred initializing the VBA libraries
(1157)"), then it lets me in - although some of the data
(esp. hyperlinks to external files) is missing from the
file.

I checked the registry, and all the VBA files, including
vba332.dll appear to be where they are supposed to be.

This is perplexing me, and I am tearing my hair out trying
to figure out why Excel seems to hate me so much. Can
anyone help me? Please....
