Version Compatability

In our workplace of 20 people, users have various versions of MSOffice on
their computers from Office97 to Office2003.

My question is this: is there some way that an Access file created in
Access97 can be modified by Access2003 - AND STILL BE MODIFIABLE BY ACCESS97
on another machine?

Alternatively, can you run Access97 on a machine which has all other Office
components operating 2003 versions?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Cheers

Hi, Marie.
My question is this: is there some way that an Access file created in
Access97 can be modified by Access2003 - AND STILL BE MODIFIABLE BY ACCESS97
on another machine?

No. The database file formats are incompatible. An Access 97 database file
must be converted to the Jet 4.0 format in order for the later versions of
Access to modify the database objects in the file. Once converted, Access
97 -- which uses Jet 3.5 -- cannot read the Jet 4.0 format from Access 2000
and later versions.

However, this does not preclude an Access 2003 database file from linking to
the tables located in the Access 97 database file and modifying the data
stored there. In this case, the Access 97 database file could remain in the
earlier format and database objects, such as forms, could be changed by
anyone with a copy of Access 97.
Alternatively, can you run Access97 on a machine which has all other Office
components operating 2003 versions?

It's possible, but it's not recommended to install applications from
different versions of MS Office on the same computer. Also, Access 97
cannot use automation with files created from more recent versions of the
other MS Office applications, such as Excel.
