Versioning in Word 2002

Versioning does not show any versions when working with a
file off a floppy disk. If I save a version and then copy
the file to the hard drive, the version is available. If I
save multiple versions while working off the floppy and
then copy the file to the hard drive, only the last saved
version is available. If I work with the file strictly off
the hard drive I have no problems. If I save versions
while working off the hard drive and then copy the file
back to the floppy. The versions are not available if I
open the file off the floppy. If I copy it back to the
hard drive, the versions show up again!? Checked KB286975
but it didn't solve the problem. Not earth shattering but
annoying. Any help would be appreciated.
