Vertical alignment in textboxes/autoshapes

Is it possible to align text vertically in textboxes and autoshapes --- much
the same as you can do in table cells?

If you REORIENT the text itself to read vertically, you can of course align it
relative to the top and bottom margins. That's not what I want.

Rather, assuming ordinary left-to-right text, can you automatically position it
equally distant from the top and bottom of the borders/margins of the textbox
or autoshape?

Thanks for any help.

No, there is no automatic way to center text vertically in a text box or
autoshape.

To add to g-n-o's info, the (obvious) workaround is to use the Space Before
setting in Paragraph formatting to centre align.

Insert a single table cell in the text box and use the vertical alignment
settings for tables to align the text.
