vertical alignment of text in table cell

I cannot find the feature for vertically aligning text in
a WD2000 table cell.

I have used this many times (but perhaps in earlier
versions?), what it allows is to request that the text in
a cell or cells should be:

at top of cell
at bottom of cell
in middle with space evenly divided above and below the
text

My table currently shows the text at top of cell, which
appear to be the default, and I want to 'middle' it.

Any help much appreciated!

Vertical Alignment is on the shortcut (right-click) menu in some contexts
(and I've added it in others). For cases where it's not, it's very difficult
to access because it's not on either the Table or the Format menu, though it
is on the Tables and Borders toolbar. Ah, wait...Word 2000 was when the
simple Vertical Alignment command got wrapped up with Horizontal Alignment,
and so instead of a menu you get a Cell Alignment palette with nine buttons
for Top Left, Center Left, etc. To fix this, see

You can drag those options onto your toolbar by going to
Tools > Customize > Commands Tab > Table. I also use the
"distribute evenly" options for rows & columns.
