Vertical Formula Bar

I've just switched from a PC to a mac and am using excel 2004. All my formula
bar window information is being displayed vertically (i.e. one symbol/letter
per vertical line). How can I return to the normal horizontal view?

If I understand you correctly, drag the bottom-left corner of the
vertical toolbar up and to the right until the toolbar orients itself
horizontally.

JE,

It doesn't seem possible to drag the the bar in any direction (or shorten or
lengthen it either). It maintains size (height) depending on the formula
inside the bar. If you click a bit outside the bar, you begin to highlight
other cells to add to the formula. If you click a bit inside, you alter or
begin to edit the formula inside the bar. There doesn't appear to be any drag
and drop feature to the bar.

This is the craziest thing I've ever encountered, and makes visualizing
complex formula nearly impossible.

cheers,

I think John may have been a little distracted :)

The Formula Bar itself can't be positioned vertically, but it definitely can
be repositioned and can be stretched horizontally:

For repositioning: There is a darker gray left edge with a little circular
button on it. Grab that edge (not the button - that turns the bar off) and
drag the bar to where you wish.

Stretching (and to solve your dilemma): The "sweet spot" is the lower
*right* corner of the bar which appears to have several diagonal hash marks.
Use that to make the bar as wide as you wish & your verticality issue will
go away.

Well, probably... :)

*My* formula bar can be positioned vertically, but then all my command
bars are custom bars - I don't use the built-in ones.

Thanks for the correction!

Tks fellows.... that worked fine. With my screen shading, I missed the
small diagonal hash marks to extend the bar.
