Vertical lines in right margin

This is my 2nd message, which hopefully is described better:

I'm using Word X v 1.2 for the iMac OS-X .

1st Q: After completing a 30-page document, while either
changing my margins in "Format," or trying to Auto-format a
"Header," I suddenly now find on each page 2 or 3
separately spaced 3/4 inch vertical black lines, exactly
1.25 inches from the right edge of the page (where I've set
my margin). How do I get rid of these mysterious lines?

2nd Q: How do I turn-off the "red" punctuation markings?

Sounds like Tools > Track Changes is enabled. Search for 'tracking changes'
in the online help should explain it.
