Vertical Lines Marking Edits in Margins

We are currently looking for a way to mark specific text
that has been edited in a document. We can easily mark
the entire paragraph, but we need to mark JUST the lines
that have edits in them.

This is a lengthy document and the changes made need to be
apparent to the end user. It is THEIR choice that they
want these vertical lines. "Just like we used to do on
the typewriter."

Does anyone have any insights into how to do this?
