Vertical lines showing up in all printing oprions

When I print a word document, the preview is fine, but when printing I have
verticals lines under and sometime through every line of text.

When I print an excel spreadsheet, i get additional horizontal lines
inserted.

Is this a setting on my desktop that I need to adjust?

Is this occurring with a laser printer? If so, it may be that the printer
has a problem. If you use an ink jet, the print head or rollers may be in
need of cleaning. If the problem only occurs when printing from one
application, and no others, This points to the application. If the
application is word only, the normal template file is suspect. Older word
versions used normal.dot, newer versions have a different file extension.
Since you mentioned Excel, things get a little more complex, and such things
as the font, cell size, and cell borders come into play. If you set to not
print any lines/borders, what happens?

I'd also suspect corrupt printer drivers. In some cases setting the printer
driver to "raw" mode may help.
