Vertical ruler

My vertical ruler disappeared and my horizontal ruler only covers about 3/4
of the screen with 1/4 white space remaining. There is no "white space"
button in my Tools>options>view

You are in Normal view. Switch to Print Layout view to see what you usually
see.

Print preview shows white "page" in the middle of gray area. How do I get the
document back to where you view both rulers and the typing area covers the
screen in the appropriate proportions.

Hit the View dropdown (or View-Zoom) and choose "Page Width" (probably).
That's what I use.
