I'd like to put some phone numbers along the bottom of a flyer in a vertical
format so people could rip off a tag with the phone number. The letters can
be horizontal one on top of the other and read normally or sideways either
one is OK

any ideas?

'Text direction' on the Format menu doesn't work for you?

You have to be in a table or text box to use this. Inserting a borderless
table at the bottom is the usual solution.
