After entering a formula into a cell, say b2, how do I tell excel to copy
the formula right down to b3005?

Select B2 again, press F5, type in B3005, hold down shift key and press enter,
press ctrl + d

OR
If there is data in all of the associated cells to the formula, just double
click on the little black square in the bottom right of B2

D-Click will work only if there is data down to row 3005 in an adjacent
column.
