Hi Everyone,

I have a Large WORD Document (approx. 1200+ pages) and I have broken
it down into multiple sections, ex., 1.0,2.0, 3.0, 3.1,3.2,
3.3,3.4..............3.13, 3.14a,
3.14b, 3.14c, 3.15, 3.16 and I need to creat a table of contents for all
these individual
documents. Section 3.14 was so huge I broke that into 3 pieces........
I have tried doing this as a master document but when I try to make the table
of contents the whole thing crashes. Someone suggested using FIELD codes but
I do not know how to go about doing this..............

Thank You
LisaW

Using field codes, you basically assemble your own "master document" using
the IncludeText field. So, the resulting document would have a series of
IncludeText fields instead of actual document text. You can insert these in
a variety of ways, including Insert - Field, Insert - File (and set the
Insert dropdown to Insert as Link), or directly by pressing Ctrl+F9, typing
the field syntax manually, then pressing F9.

If you choose to go the manual route, I'd insert the first one using
Insert - Field or Insert - File (Insert as Link) just so you can copy the
needed syntax, since it's not intuitive.

You might look up Field Codes in Word's help system to gain an understanding
with the additional field tools.
