Very odd document opening

i have word document. which work fine for days but when i open it. it
only displays boxes nothing else. it aslo shows non english characters
i.e. sigmas, tileds etc. what to do?
it shows a hundreds of pages in the document although it was only one
page in it.

is there any way to recover the corrupted documents. i have already
tried the link u given of Microsoft page, and applied all those methods
to recover the file but in vain.
