Very Slow Outlook

D

David Michael

Hi. I'm writing to let you guys know about how I fixed a
problem with Outlook. (I searched in vain on this board
and used Google to try and find the answer.) I had a
brand new laptop running XP Home, and Office XP
Professional. I imported all of my old Outlook
information from my old laptop; old emails, contacts,
etc. Suddenly, my outlook was very slow. To move from
one message to the other (in other words to select to
read a different message) it would take 5 to 10 seconds.
I doubled the RAM, but it didn't help.
I finally figured it out tonight. It was the archive
section. I had to go and change the setting from keeping
items in the archive from 6 months to two months...once I
did it, presto, the problem was solved. I guess I didn't
need the RAM!

Hmm...I'm not sure why having the AutoArchive set to 6 months would
cause a slowness problem, but I'm glad you got it to work. You might
want to also try disabling the integration with Instant Messenger in
Tools | Options | Other; when the integration is enabled, many Outlook
2002 users have experienced major slowdowns as well.
