Very slow scrolling when graphics are displayed

I am having very hard time with Word 2004 when I scroll up and down it
becomes jumpy when graphics are displayed.
Most of the time scrolling takes place after a few seconds ( 4 to 5 sec
on the average) an it is very distracting and upseting.

This ill effect does not ocurr with Word X.

Does anyone have this problem?

Any ideas how to improve the scrolling response of Word 2004 when
graphics are embedded?

TIA

FWIW, if you search the archives,

http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?as_ugroup=*mac.office*

you would find that this is a frequent complaint. It has to do with
moving to the ATSUI graphics engine, which was required for Unicode
display.

One workaround is to display image placeholders (Preferences/View).

The workaround I use is not to scroll at all. Instead, the new Thumbnail
view in the Navigation pane (View/Navigation pane) makes scrolling
nearly obsolete for me.
