Very slow search in address book

I am using 10.3.9 and recently updated Entourage etc to 11.2.0. I have 1550
addresses but when I put a name in the search bar in the address book pane
it takes 30 sec to find the address. I have rebuilt the database but the
situation has not improved.

Can you help?

Click the Name column header (and a second time to get it back to AZ, if
necessary). Any better?

Or is this an exchange Contacts address book?
