I posted this question yesterday in the applications
forum, but did a sloppy job and (deservedly) received no
response. Here's a more complete summary of my strange
problem. . .
I'm using Word '97 with a Brother 1435 Laser Monochrome
Printer and XP OS in a newer computer. Here's the
strange font problem that I've been wrestling with for
about 12 hours...
For years I've been using the Times New Roman (size 12)
font for my work (I'm a writer). Yesterday it began to
print out in a size 10 and much lighter than normal, even
though set at size 12. (Size 12 is also the default
setting on my word '97 setup.) Also on the screen it
shows up as size 12 print, as before. I'm not aware of
anything I did to cause this anomaly.
To try to fix the problem I replaced the TimesNR font in
the font folder with a (true) Times New Roman font
downloaded from the net. I did this twice with downloads
from different places. It didn't solve the problem. I
did notice that the "List of Fonts" window in
the "Install New Font" window was greyed out and I
couldn't install the new font this way. I installed the
new TNR font by deleting the Times New Roman font from
the fonts folder and dragging the new version into the
folder.
I also removed my word 97 program and reinstalled it
(twice). I also installed the latest driver from Brother
(twice). I went then through an elaborate troubleshooting
procedure with the Brother support and it didn't help.
(I also did the Microsoft troubleshooting procedure.)
Afterwards Brother confirmed that it wasn't the printer
or their driver causing the problem and I tend to agree
with them.
Other fonts (such as Arial) work fine. It's only the
Times New Roman font that I have trouble with. I could
switch fonts, I suppose, but I've used this font for
years and years and I hate to be bullied into dropping it
by this strange problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
If you have any questions about my strange problem please
post them here.
Thanks in advance.
