Very Wierd problem - cannot figure out. please help

Hello All .

I have been troubleshooting a very wierd and troublesome problem for a client.
We are running 2003 std server with terminal services - all updates run.
We have on top Office 2003 which is shared between all the TS clients.

We have many network based printer, connecting different ways, but over the
past 3 months a wierd problem has come up.
when any user tried to print from word (as in file print) the print dialogue
box can take up to 5 mins to come up. If they just click print (to default
printer) its ok.
The same happens in Powerpoint, but not as long.
Excel does not show this problem at all - the print dialogue box comes up
straight away - and prints fine.

I have run a full repair (but not removed and re-installed as there are many
office outlook users and dont want to loose anything) and have also run all
the office updates and it has not made any difference. I am running out of
ideas and time to solve this one. Could anyone shed some ideas and light to
get this issue resolved.

many thanks

Hi Glenn,

Word looks for a printer driver it can use (prefers have the driver installed locally even if you're printing on the network) and
it's time out choice is about five minutes. Is there any consistency between what the default printer choice/location is
preselected in File=>Print in Word and the problem?
