Video format & size for the web

C

Cowtoon

I need to upload a video for a website - currently 1 gb (no ... I won't
upload that file). The person who created the video explained that it can
be put into any format for me. It's a little lengthy ... about 5 minutes.
Should I ask for an avi and then figure out how to compress it.

What would be considered a reasonable size for the web. I don't want to
cripple anyone with a large file, so I wouldn't mind some suggestions.
Should I look into streaming it ... or would that be a waste of my time.

Thanks a million for any ideas. I'm happy to dig into figuring this out ...
but right now, I kind-a need a bit of a lead on where to start this quest.

Recommend you convert it to Flash and let it stream

Quickie question ... before I plow ahead. Do you happen to know if Flash
will import an AVI or does it need to first be converted to an FLA file
before Flash will look at it. It's changed a lot since I last worked with it
and it might be more friendly towards other formats ... maybe it'll import
an AVI.

Meanwhile I've emailed the video creator to find out if he can convert and
provide as an FLA file.

Thanks again.
