View 'My Network Places' - FTP location in Office

B

Breeze

I've succesfully added an FTP location where I can store files etc via 'Add
network place'. But I cannot even see this location - much less open from or
save files to this location when in Word or Excel etc.

And yet the FTP location is a large as life in Network places - and can be
viewed and accessed vi I.E.

Is there some reason for this?

The FTP address is ftp://[email protected]/

Breeze: That is not an FTP location; that's an email address of sorts. Try
changing the FTP location to ftp://members.optusnet.com.au/ It is your login
that will designate to the server that it's "theheywoods", so I don't see a
problem there--that link just provides the username for you, but the @ sign
could be confusing to Microsoft/Office. It's just a shot in the dark;
someone else may know much better than I.

Hi Anne - a big thankyou for responding so quickly - really appreate the
effort.

Re your suggestion, ftp://members.optusnet.com.au/ - my version of Word (2000)
does not accept any colon's or backslashes i.e. will not allow you to 'Add'
as an FTp location. It 'un-greys' the 'Add' only when offending colons
backslashes and the like are removed.

I've already tried ftp.members.optusnet.com.au - Word accept it as an FTP
location - but cant find the files etc and comes up wit the following error
message:
Cannot access server etc

If you have any other thoughts - that would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Leonard.

Hi Breeze,

If you're trying to use File=>Save As from Word or Excel
then it may be looking to find support from your Web Space Provider
for 'Front Page Server Extensions'. Your provider mentions that
they do not support that feature.

Hi Bob - I guess this means that 'Front Page Server Extensions' are required
for FTP access by all MS applications. What I've now done is pay for some
web-hosting by another provider (hostgator) and seem to be having no problem
so far.

Many thanks for the help.

Cheers.
