View Slideshow without Presenter Tools?

S

stutes

I am running Microsoft PowerPoint 2008 for Mac, with a laptop (MacBook
Pro) and a projector acting as a secondary monitor. I want to view the
slide show the way I used to on my Windows computer. That is, the
slide show presents on the projector/secondary monitor, but on the
primary monitor what you see is the "Normal View" in PowerPoint.

It seems like, no matter what I try with PowerPoint 2008 for Mac, all
I can view is the slide show running the Presenter Tools. Obviously
going to Slide Show>View Presenter Tools puts the presentation mode
into Presenter Tools, but I get the exact same view when I go to Slide
Show>View Slide Show—even this way it still presents with the
Presenter Tools. I don't want the Presenter Tools; I want the "Normal
View" (this allows me to edit the slide on the fly; at least it does
in Windows....)

What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

You can present a slide show the way you are used to seeing by clicking
on the little tiny screen icon that you see in normal view at the bottom
of the editing window. Another way is to use the Slide Show menu and
choose the first option, which is View Show. Notice there's a keyboard
shortcut, which is command+enter.

Present a slide show in person

There's a subheading in that topic:
Deliver a presentation without using presenter tools

Jim,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately that is just it: I know that I can
choose between "View Slide Show" and "View Presenter Tools", and that
"View Slide Show" is suppose to be a presentation without the
presenter tools, but sadly this just is not the case. Whatever one I
choose, the both look the same:
• The presented slide on the secondary monitor (as it should be), and
on the primary monitor
• The time in the upper left with slide thumbnails down the left side
• The current slide in the upper middle, with notes underneath
¶ Navigation buttons in the upper right, with some buttons and then an
"End" and "Help" button in the lower right.

It doesn't matter if I go to "Slide Show > View Slide Show" or "Slide
Show > View Presenter Tools" or "View > Slide Show" or "View >
Presenter Tools" or if I press the "Slide Show" button in the Normal
View, or if I use keyboard shortcuts... whatever I try, I ALWAYS see
the same thing that I've listed above (which is Presenter Tools).

The Help File isn't much help. All it states are this:
"Deliver a presentation without using presenter tools
You can use one of the following options to start the slide show from
the first slide of the presentation:
On the View menu, click Slide Show.
On the Slide Show menu, click View Slide Show.
Note To start the slide show at the current slide, click Slide Show
at the lower-left corner of the PowerPoint window."
I realize that is how is SUPPOSE to work, but again, I'm ALWAYS
getting the Presenter Tools.

Really wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong, as I'm about to
forgo PowerPoint and use Impress.

Hi,

I don't think there's a setting anywhere that controls this, but it
might be time to start trashing PowerPoint's preferences and see if that
fixes it.
