Hi =?Utf-8?B?RnJhbmtN?=,
I usually attach .xls files as data sources but have tried the imbedded data source
using the wizard and have used Word tables just to see if one type of data source would
activate the "View Source" button but to no avail.Yes, the "View Source" really only works with a data source created by Word, and in Word
2002 and later this would be an Access database (*.mdb), but only one created by Word.
You can look at Word table or text file data in a form by actually opening that file in
Word and using the "Data form" toolbar button.
If you're used to being able to work in the Excel file during a merge in earlier versions
of Word, creating a DDE rather than OLE DB link to the data might help you. Activate
"Confirm conversions on open" in Tools/Options/General, then select the data source
file, choosing DDE when prompted.
This feature will only work for certain kinds of data sources. So our first
question must be: what type of file is your data source?
