ms project (i am using 98) seems to always put each task
on its own line. can i use project to show me a task view
with one line per resource, i.e. a gant chart with all the
tasks for each resource scheduled out on the same line?
thank you for your time.

Hello,

In Ms Project, there no "Resource Gantt Chart" as in other softwares.
But have you tried the Resource Usage view ?

If you assign two resources to a task, you want to see a separate Gantt line
for each resource in that task. This is not possible in Project.

The workaround is to create a task for resource R1 and a second task for
resource R2.

i am looking for exactly the opposite, jlb. i want to see
two tasks on the same line, for a single resource.

Two tasks on the same line isn't available. The closest I can come to that
is to suggest clicking on View | More views | Resource allocation. This
will give you a split window. In the top portion you can select the
resource and in the bottom you will see a "personalized Gantt" showing all
tasks for that resource.

If you want to look at the "personalized Gantt" for two (or more) resources
simultaneously then click on one resource (that person's "personalized
Gantt" will appear) and then press Control and click on the next resource.
The additional person will also appear in the Gantt. You can include
multiple additional resources.

There is a horizontal splitter in the middle which you can drag up/down to
vary the number of lines being displayed.
