View timesheet read-only?

How do I configure ms project server so that users can view their tasks
and the timesheet without being able to enter data in the timesheet and
submit time? We want the folks to see their tasks but we aren't using
timesheets (project manual updates).

Thanks,

To do this, you would need to do the following:

1. Make sure team members are allowed to view the View My Tasks page
2. Set the default method of tracking in Project Server to either % Work
Complete or Actual Work Done and Work Remaining and then lock this method of
tracking
3. Make sure all projects use the above method of tracking (if not, the
PM's must republish the assignments using Collaborate - Publish - Republish
Assignments)
4. Modify the Timesheet view in PWA and remove at least the following
columns (% Work Complete, Remaining Work, and Actual Work)

Hope this helps.

Dale,

Won't the buttons still show up at the top for saving and submitting
time?

Thanks,
Andy

Yes, but there is nowhere to enter time. The team member could add a Note
to a task, however, which I think might be acceptable in your situation.
Hope this helps.

Dale & Andy,

If a team member has imported the assignment to an Outlook calender, the
team member is still able to report on the assignment (I've set our server's
default method for reporting progress to "Percent of work complete").

Any suggestions for a solution? - Or should we skip the Outlook integration.

Michael --

I didn't even think about the Outlook integration piece, and how that would
bypass the recommendations I gave to Andy. Thank you for pointing that out
to me. I think you have two choices in this situation:

1. Skip the Outlook integration entirely
2. Ask your team members to use the "Display Project Web Access in Outlook"
feature INSTEAD of using the Outlook add-in that displays PWA tasks on the
Outlook calendar as appointments

Option #2 above will allow team members to see their actual PWA timesheet as
a new page in Outlook, and the PWA timesheet page will display according to
the steps I detailed to Andy (no Actual Work, Remaining Work, or % Work
Complete columns will show). Hope this helps.
