"view your publish log file" link not working (FrontPage 2003)

When publishing a site in FrontPage, you get a status section in the lower
pane which has 3 links:
1. View your publish log file
2. View your remote web site
3. Open your remote web site in Frontpage

clicking on the 1st link used to open the log file in an IE window. Now it
does nothing. I have removed and reinstalled FP2003 and I have reinstalled
IE6 to no avail.

If you have cleared your temporary internet files since you published the log file is gone.
Next time you publish a new one will be created.

I have gotten closer to the culprit. I had both Firefox and IE installed on
my machine. I had removed Firefox and could not get the link to launch a
browser session. However, when I reinstalled Firefox, the link now works,
but it opens in Firefox not Explorer. I have tried setting IE as the DEFAULT
browser, but that does not seem to work. I believe the problem lies in that
FrontPage has associated that link with the Default browser, which it thinks
is Firefox, even though I've tried changing it to IE.

Thanks,
Charles.

Have to add that one to the list.

Which version of Firefox did you install? The later .9.x versions had some
issues with proper default browser registering that has caused goofy
problems (not FrontPage specific).

My understanding of the log file functionality is that it simply "throws"
the file at Windows and lets Windows find the right browser to use.

I'd suggest that, if you want to continue to use IE as your default, that
you open up IE's properties and on the "Programs" tab, check "Internet
Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser".

Close all your browsers and start IE. Generally, it'll prompt you to set it
as the default.

Once you've forced it to be the default again, the log should open up in it
rather than FF.
