I recently installed all the upgrades to Win 98SE and
Office 2000. Since then, I've experienced glitches in
using various filters & viewers, namely: .JPG, .MHT, and
Quick-View. I'm hoping there's a common cause for these
issues, and that someone knows a fix. The bugs are as
follows....
1.)JPEG files, which were never problematic in the past,
will no longer behave. I cannot open, download, save or
process jpgs in any way. (Since upgrading, I notice there
are now two "Grphfltr" folders in my
PFiles\Common\MsShared\ directory. The folders contain
identical files, including jpegim32.flt and ms.jpg, except
that the newer folder, called "Grphflt," contains an
additional 13th file -- hsi_errs.log.)
2.).MHT files. Prior to upgrading, I always saved webpages
in the "web archive, single file.mht" format, for the
convenience of having one file instead of two. The .mht
files always retained full graphics and functionality.
Since the upgrade, however, my .mht files are no longer
readable. They open in a retrograde text form, without
graphics or formatting and with copious text encoding. So
much for all of the webpages I've saved! And when I try to
save new webpages in .mht-format, the operation fails.
3.) Quick-View, which always worked smoothly in the past,
doesn't seem to be working since the updates. Even simple
Word files won't open in Quickview. I receive the
message: "Whoops! Unable to view this file."
---- If anyone out there can shed some light on these
problems, it will save me weeks or even months of
clueless thrashing & gnashing....Thanks-- GG
