Viewing Access XP files in Access 97

Eddie Johnson

I am working on a report for my job right now and I need
to change the file from Excel spreadsheet to a Access
Database file viewable in Access 97 since that is the
software I have installed at the office. I did it at
home since I have Access 2002 and did change the file,
but I take it to work and try it there it says that it is
an unrecognizied database file. Cacn anyone help me?

If you already have it in Excel, you can link the Excel spreadsheet table to
your A-97. You probably did not check the 'save as A-97' format when you
created the database in your 2002 program. A-97 will not open A-2000 and
above versions of Access, but will open an A-2002 created A-97 file.

I do not want to link it, I want to have it as a database
in Access. Like I stated previously I have Access 2003
at home. I opened a new database, clicked Get External
data, imported the excel file then saved it as a wdb
file. I then took it to work opened my Access 97 and it
said "Unrecognized Database File"

A97 cannot open a file created in A2003. If you go back home, you can use
an option in A2003 to save the file in the A97 format. Then you will be
able to use it at work. That is assuming that the file is not making use
of any features not found in A97.
