Viewing all resources in the enterprise pool?

K

KevD

In PWA I get a list of resources but not all of them!
In project when I Open Enterprise Resource Pool I see a list of users and
generic resources that begin with @n-Name, n being a number e.g. @6-Project
Manager.

I tried to add a further resource @7-Developer and got a duplicate warning
and so renamed it to @7-Developer-Team, that got accepted! I can see neither
of those resources in PWA or Project, can someone please point me in the
right direction??

Many thanks

First, whoever set up your Enterprise Resource Pool should be sent to a
re-education camp!

Resource names should have no special characters -- only letters, numbers,
spaces, and underscores (_). Other characters will cause trouble.

So, fix your resource names. If that doesn't work, such as for the ones you
cannot see, you may have to delete the resources (from PWA Admin) and then
recreate them (in PPro).

Hi Reid,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I dont see a problem re-naming the generic
resources if that is required, it's more the point I cannot see some of them!
In PWA I can see a whole raft of generic resource names as well as normal
resources but I cannot see all of them.

Is it a permissions problem?

Thanks

I guess it's possible that permissions are preventing your seeing all
resources in PWA.

But I assume you are an Admin. Are you a member of other Groups as well?
If so, I suggest removing those other associations and seeing what that does
for you.

Have you looked in PWA > Admin > Cleanup project server database? I'd
expect you to be able to see ALL resources in the delete resources area.

Hi Reid,

Yes I am an Admin, a very inexerienced one at that :) I can see all the
resources in the Admin > Clean up Project Server Database and a few others as
well. But cannot see them in PWA Resource Center View!!

I have checked the Administrators group settings and they seem ok, but given
your initial comment about the naming convention used I have some doubts...

Can I do anything else to view all of these resources, they are the generic
ones and I want our PM's to use them initially before swapping them out.

I really do appreciate the help.

The Resource Center view you are using may be set up to filter out users who
are not below you in the RBS.

Note which Resource Center view you are using (e.g. Resource Summary). Go
to Admin > Manage views. Select the view and click Modify View. Scroll to
the bottom of the page and see if the RBS Filter box is checked. If it is,
that probably explains why you do not see all resources when you view the
Resource Center.

It does not, however, explain why you cannot see all resources in the
Enterprise Resource Pool from within PPro.

Again, I ask, are you associated with any Group other than Administrators?
If you are, it is possible that one of those other Group's permissions are
preventing your seeing all the resources.

Hi Reid,

I am no longer a member of any other groups, and I set permissions from the
Admin templates, so they should be ok now.. Doing as you said I can confirm
the checkbox has not been ticked!, I do know that the previous admin setup
RBS but it is a grey area to me but I am trying to learn fast....

Thanks for the help in trying to solve this mystery.

If you still can't see some resources in the Resource Center view, then it
sounds to me like there is some corruption. Since you can't see them to
rename them, your only remaining option may be to delete them.

If possible, before doing so, any projects that use those resources should
replace them with cleanly named resources.

Good luck!

Many thanks Reid for the assistance, I shall continue to work on it and post
if I get the result.

Cheers
