Viewing an Access Dbase

There in an Access dbase on our network that an employee
is trying to open. He is using Access 2000. When he
attempts to open the dbase, he gets the following message:

"The current user account doesn't have permission to
convert or enable this dbase.
To convert or enable a databse, ensure the following:

*You must join a workgroup that defines the user accounts
used to access the dbase.
*You user acct must have Open/Run and Open Exclusive
permissions for the dbase object.
*Your user account must have Modify Design or
Administrator permissions for all tables in the dbase, or
it must be the owner of all tables in the tables.
*Your user account must have Read Design permission for
all objects in the dbase.
*request that other users close the dbase."

What do we need to do so that the employee will be able to
access the dbase?

That database has been secured using Access user and group security. You
need to determine who controls the security, add the new user with a
password, so that the user can log in. Someone should be an Adminstrator --
that is, have a userid that is recorded in the Admins group in that
workgroup file (usually, and by default, a .MDW file).

If you wanted to secure a database, you'd download the Microsoft Access
Security FAQ from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads (or wherever it may
have been moved on the microsoft web site). There might be some information
in there that would be of help in this case, but it doesn't give any
information on how to break security.
