Viewing .EPS files on MAC Word 98 or Word V.x

Hi:

In the process of a book-writing project, I have been saving figures
(from MATLAB) as .EPS files. When I insert these as pictures within
Word 98 or Word V.x, they get inserted as blocks with a message that
the picture was not saved with a preview. I do realize that such
pictures can be printed on a postscript printer but I have failed to
print them on most postscript printers. (I can convert the Word files
to a .ps file and then use a Adobe distiller to create a pdf file to
see the pictures, but this not a workable solution, it turns out).
This is because, the publishing company wants the final product as a
Word file.

Can anyone suggest a way to allow Mac Word files to preview/see the
EPS files and then print them out to the wide range of postscript
printers?

If Matlab does not include an EPS then there is not a whole lot you can do to
get one, other than use something like Illustrator or Freehand to open it and
save it with a preview. The EPS should print to any PostScript printer,
however, and if it does not, then either Matlab is putting out bad EPS (which
happens a lot) or you may be operating your printer in PCL mode (happens a
lot in HP printers).

Forgot something: If you are going to be using a lot of EPS and working in
the PostScript world then a program like Illustrator or Freehand is nearly a
requirement.
