Viewing Page Margin Area

While reading the MVP FAQ site article called "Ruler of all you survey", I
found out that you can shift the viewable portion of the ruler to the left
(showing more of the dark area on the left that represents the page margin)
by pressing the shift key and clicking the right arrow on the horizontal
scroll bar.

This has the unexpected affect of shifting all the text on the screen to the
right (so it will stay under the white, "text area" of the ruler. I like
this new view. At least, I would like to use it for a while and see how that
works. Is there any way to force all word documents to open this way? I
tried using a macro in the AutoOpen module, but it doesn't seem to work.

I don't know of any way, but if you like this more centered layout and have
Word 2002 or above, you might try using Print Layout view with white space
hidden. This gives you a continuous view of the document text (like Normal
view), but the WYSIWYGness of Print Layout, including the side margins.

All Right....... That settles it.

I'm upgrading to Word 2002 as soon as I can scrape together the money.
If I upgrade, can I still use the other functions of Office 2000? Pretty
sure I can, but just thought I'd ask.

AFAIK Word 2002 is compatible with Office 2000 apps, but don't take my word
for it. I know Outlook can be picky, especially if you use Word as your
email editor (though that's not recommended).

I don't, but I'm curious why that's not recommended?

Since I don't do this and never have, I'm perhaps not the best qualified to
answer, but historically there have been problems with this. Just one
example: I believe using Word as your email editor clears the MRU list at
the bottom of the File menu. The main problem, AIUI, is that an instance of
Word will remain open (even after you think you've closed it) if your email
client is still open, which can prevent you from deleting some files or
cause some temp files not to be deleted or... well, I'm just guessing here!
